28 helical screw piles were installed as a foundation solution for this new build 4 bedroom house in the grounds of a listed building. There were root protection areas and high water tables with a lot of running sands and mudstone fragments.
Chance Hubbell piles with their solid steel shafts and grout column were an ideal solution given the difficult ground conditions. They have excellent penetration rates, they are an end bearing pile plus a friction pile as there is a C30 grout column around the shaft which provides both protection and greatly improved load bearing capacity over hollow tube piling.
This was fast track construction; pile installation took place over 2 days, followed by 2 days steel fixing, RC raft and shuttering and concrete was poured on day 5.
