About this Project
Mr & Mrs Newman wanted to future proof their property and stop importing fossil fuel heating oil. The new heating system involved the following
- 270m2 5 bedroom property
- 3 boreholes, depth of 110m through 6 differnet types of challenging geology, clay, gravel, flint, chalk, green sands , mudstone sands
- 500 Litre Unifresh Hot water/combination buffer cylinder – hygiencially fresh hot water
- 14kW ground source heat pump
- Loft insulation (RHI requirement)
- Solid walls unchanged
- Single glazed windows unchanged
- No floor insulation
- Gov’t RHI Renewable Heat Incentive £35,489 over 7 years

Following the installation the Client was very please and wrote this notice and review of our work. The notice remains on the wall for passers-by and church goes to learn more about renewable heating with heat pumps and how our designs for grade 2 listed properties enable them to switch away from the fossil oil grid

Phase 1 Drilling
The Drilling process took 7 days from start to finish with a 12 Ton rig and full mud treatment unit to keep the site tidy the boreholes where then connected back into the boiler room and pipework electrofusioned a thte joints nad manifold, follwed by pressure testing pipework and flushing with biocide






Phase 2 Heat Pump and Unifresh Tank Installation
The oil boiler was removed and disposed of, the heat pump and 500L Unifresh hot water tank & heating buffer were installed and commissioned.
The existing radiators were not allowed to be changed due to the listing of the building, however, the heat pump runs on weather compensated heating curves for efficiency and comfort and the property is heated very well in what is a very cold part of Hertfordshire with temperatures dropping to -5degs during winter. Ground Suns design of the whole system allows for properties like these to be heated all year round. With the correct engineering approach hard to heat properties with no insulation and single glazing are made sustainable for the future
